Principal Update: 11/19/21
Posted by SBLSD on 11/22/2021
Highly Capable referral period opens Nov. 22
Does your child perform at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others? Consider referring them for Highly Capable Services. You may submit referrals beginning Nov. 22 through Dec. 9 for the 2021-22 school year.
Please start thinking now about who you might want to refer. View these presentations to learn more about the referral process and the continuum of services. Online and hard copy forms will be available on Nov. 22.
Any parent/guardian, community member or staff member may refer students for Highly Capable Services. Upon referral, testing will be held during January and February. Test scores will be reviewed to determine eligibility and families will be notified by March.
Learn more about the District’s Highly Capable Services at www.sumnersd.org.

Principal Update: 11/12/21
Posted by SBLSD on 11/12/2021
This week we honored our Donald Eismann community Veterans for their sacrifice and commitment to our country. On behalf of the staff at Donald Eismann Elementary, we thank you for your bravery, selflessness and courage to serve. It is evident that we are surrounded by families with deep military roots and a continued commitment to service. Thank you for joining the Donald Eismann staff in showing support for our Veterans.
We look forward to seeing many of you next week during conferences. We can’t wait to celebrate your child’s success and together make a plan for continued progress for the school year.Best,
Bobbi Snider, PrincipalBrett McDaniel, Assistant Principal
Mrs. Zengel's class surprised the office staff with some wonderful thank you cards! What a great way to demonstrate the character trait of Gratitude for this month.
Dress for winter temperatures
Please remember to have your child dress for the weather. Students go outside for recess and should have a warm rain jacket if possible. If you need assistance please contact our counselor at Stephanie_Groepper@sumnersd.org.
We are looking for any gently used or new clothing and shoes for our health room to cover the occasional need to replace wet or dirty clothes.
Lost and Found
We have a large amount of items in the lost and found. Please come by to look for your child's missing items. All lost and found items left will be donated over winter break.
Picture retakes are scheduled for November 16th. Students that don't like their first picture and want a retake need to bring their old picture packet on retake day and give it to Dorian staff.
Payments for new students or students that were absent for October pictures should be cash or check brought back in a packet and handed to Dorian staff on picture day by students or they can order online. Please ask your child's teacher for packet if you need one. Online payments are an option by going to the Dorian Studio website www.dorianstudio.com. Orders can be placed now. Look up the school name and the retake date and you can order online now and up to 4 days after the picture day. They do not take envelopes after the picture day. An online order would be required after picture day. Envelopes for new students will be sent home this week.
Families have the option to order the first picture from Oct. 5th if they forgot. They must order online and select the date of Oct. 5th. Those pictures will be mailed to their home by Dorian.
If you paid for pictures for Oct.5th picture day and your child was absent that day they can get their pictures taken on retake day.

Principal Update: 11/4/21
Posted by SBLSD on 11/4/2021
This month we are working on the character trait of Gratitude. The dictionary defines it as: “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.” The definition we are using in class is:
Gratitude: choosing to notice and appreciate things in our life, things in others, and things in the world.
Gratitude has been shown to be one of the number one ways to reduce anxiety, increase happiness, and improve relationships. Why? Because it is a matter of where we put our attention! Did you know we can only have one thought at once? Scarlett Lewis from the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement says it like this: We can’t have a grateful thought and an angry thought at the same time! So, over the course of the month, we will consistently practice putting our attention and our focus on Gratitude. We will think about how to be grateful even for challenges. We will talk about incredible artists and writers and thinkers who know the power of Gratitude in the world. We will encourage Gratitude towards our classmates, ourselves, and (of course) our family!
Native American Heritage Month
Did you know November is Native American Indian Heritage Month, or as it is commonly referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. November is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people.
Celebrating Native American Heritage Month involves taking the time to recognize the rich diversity of the cultures in America. There are hundreds of tribes across the nation, but most people are only capable of naming a few. Native American Heritage Month is a great opportunity to research your local history and discover which tribes called the land you now live on home. To find out more about tribal land visit www.native-land.ca.
Honoring Veterans Day
Students have received a red, white or blue star which they can decorate at home in honor of Veterans Day. The star can represent a Veteran in their family or a Veteran that they would like to honor. Photos of Veterans encouraged! If they do not have a Veteran in their family they can do research about a hero they would like to honor. Students can return the stars to the front office and we will collect them for a large display on our front windows of the school. Please have the stars returned to the school by November 9th.
On November 12 we will honor our Veterans by having a gratitude table at the front of the school with cards and roses. Veterans can stop by the school and visit the table, we look forward to honoring our Veterans.
During recess students will have the opportunity to tie a ribbon on the school fence to honor Veterans.
Elementary conferences will take place Nov. 17-19 and 23 with options for in-person or virtual formats. In-person conferences will adhere to health and safety guidelines. These days will follow the half-day early dismissal schedule at 12:15 pm. Grab-and-go lunches will be provided.

Thank you for your help with silent dismissal! With your help we continue to improve our dismissal, keeping it safe and timely. After feedback from our recent survey we are making a few changes which should speed up our playshed dismissal (parents picking up on foot). Please read the below information:
- Please take time this weekend to teach your child their dismissal number. In the playshed students will be gathering in number lines rather than by grade level. This will allow for siblings to be together and for parents to easily identify their children.
- If you are picking up a kindergartener on foot (playshed) please come to the front of the line. We release kindergarteners prior to grades 1-5.
- If you use the silent dismissal phone application, notifications vary depending on what zone the child is in. Please do not rely solely on the "dismissal time" on the application. If you have questions on if your child was dismissed, please talk to a dismissal staff member (orange vest) or visit/call the office.
- During dismissal please do not enter our parking lot from the bus loading zone. This area is for exit only during dismissal.
We will be reviewing the survey again at the end of next week. If you would like to give feedback or suggestions please use the survey link below.

Principal Update: 9/17/21
Posted by SBLSD on 9/17/2021
At Donald Eismann Elementary, we believe that character development is one of the cornerstones of educating the whole child. Each educator at our school is invested in ensuring your child engages in conversations around character development and practices each character trait on a daily basis. As mentioned in our last newsletter, we will be focusing on one trait a month in combination of an equity focus. This month our character trait is kindness. Kindness is a choice that we get to make to bring good to your own life and the world.
Kindness is given through our actions, our attitude, our encouragement and our gifts to one another. Recently our school community showed kindness by collecting items to fill the fridge and stock shelves for our community. It amazes me how our community is quick to come together in a time of need. As a school, our families assisted in providing meals to over 2,500 families! Your generosity and kindness is out of this world!
Try the below conversation starts within your home:
How does kindness look in your home? What does it look like in our community? What does kindness look like in our extended family, our faith, spiritual practices, our community centers, our sports teams?
What acts of kindness have others shown you lately and how did you respond? How did it make you feel? How do random acts of kindness help you grow?
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
to October 15 is National Hispanic American Heritage Monthowment for
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.
We would love to hear from our families with hispanic heritage. If you are interested in sharing your family photos, traditions and or artifacts please email dee@sumnersd.org.

Please call the office to excuse your child’s absence for the day. Unexcused absences can result in truancy petitions. This can be avoided by a quick phone call or email.
Pre-arranged absences of more than 2 days require a pre-arranged absence form to be completed. These forms are available in the office.Thank you so much for helping improve our morning arrival and dismissal procedures. We all know that with a new system there will be challenges and you for greeting our staff with empathy, patience and kindness while we navigate a system designed with the sole focus of student safety. Yesterday we had walkers in and out of our the dismissal zone by 3:58 with all car pick-ups gone by 4:07pm. Remember no matter what time you arrive we start dismissing students at 3:40 pm. Thanks to your partnership, we have drastically reduced the time it takes to depart 600 students. To help us achieve our goal of safely dismissing over 600 students in 15 minutes or less we need your help. We have identified areas for improvement below. Please take a few minutes to review how you can help us become "better together."
Please limit early dismissals as much as possible. Students are engaged in learning until the end of the school day. If your student must leave early, please email the teacher in advance so they have ample time to pack up. If you want the office to call the student before you arrive, please call them when you are 2-4 minutes away to avoid the student losing class time by sitting in the office. To prepare for dismissal our office will take early dismissal until 3:25 pm. At 3:25 pm your child will be dismissed at the end of the day.
Parent car drop off in the morning:
-
Have students ready to exit the car; masks on, backpack ready and can unbuckle themselves.
-
Drive safely through the two lanes.
-
Wait for a school employee (yellow vest) before allowing the child to exit the car
-
Parents please stay in your car at both a.m. and p.m.
-
If students cannot buckle/unbuckle themselves, please park and walk up.
Playshed pick up in the afternoon:
- Parents please stand near the cone with the group that matches your child's number.
- Parents please raise your number up high when called so we can match you with your child.
- Please wait for the staff member to connect you with your child.
Thank you for taking time to read how you can help with our dismissal process. We would like to get your feedback on our implementation.
Please take a moment to complete the feedback survey by clicking on the link below.
Counselor’s Corner
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Stephanie Groepper and I have the privilege of being the substitute school counselor here at Donald Eismann. As the school counselor, my focus will be on working with students in different capacities to help them be successful in all aspects of their learning. Some of the ways I will be working with students are: teaching lessons in classrooms, meeting with students individually or in small groups, and working with students to problem-solve at their request. I also help families figure out where to go for resources if they need things like clothing or food, or if their child has a need for more counseling than I can provide in the school setting. I will be at Donald Eismann Tuesdays and Fridays and in the afternoon on Wednesdays.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child or if you think there is something that I can do to help your family, please don’t hesitate to send me an email at Stephanie_Groepper@sumnersd.org

Principal Update: 9/10/21
Posted by SBLSD on 9/10/2021
Today we welcomed over 100 new kindergarten students to our DEE family! Thank you to our staff and PTA for welcoming our new families to our campus. If you are a kindergarten family and did not get a chance to visit with PTA you can contact them at president@donaldeismannpta.org.
With 100 new students starting today and preschool starting next week, we are making a slight adjustment to our parent pickup location. Parent pickup is defined as an adult physically present on campus, waiting outside on foot or in your car. Attached you will find an aerial view of our dismissal plan with a key that explicitly states each location and purpose. We ask that you preview the map and make any necessary adjustments to your arrival on campus. Together as we make these minor adjustments we continue to decrease our dismissal time. Thanks to all of our families, yesterday our car and parent pickup was nearly complete by 4:05 pm.
This new location for parent pickup on foot will allow for extended social distancing, clear access to preschool and visual safety in the car zone. Please note that today kindergarten families have been instructed to meet their child’s teacher at the bike rack (black zone). This area will ONLY be for kindergarten parents until further notice.
Silent dismissal was implemented due to a significant increase in our student population. We have received several questions regarding silent dismissal, it’s implementation and the components within the application. In regards to the components within the application, parents are able to identify if their child is riding a bus or walking on their own. If you are physically coming to campus, our staff will enter your number as you arrive and select your child’s dismissal zone based on your location to dismiss your child. Any change to how your child is getting home at dismissal needs to be complete by 2:00 pm. You can call our office at 253-891-4500 to make changes.
We suggest taking a photo of your pickup card with your phone in the event that you have forgotten your card at home, otherwise please be prepared to show ID. If you have any questions regarding silent dismissal and it’s implementation please email dee@sumnersd.org.
Sincerely,
Bobbi Snider, Principal

Principal Update: 9/7/21
Posted by SBLSD on 9/7/2021
Dear Explorer Families,
It was great seeing all of our students back today ready for learning! Our students connected and reconnected with each other in the classroom and on the playground. These connections were beautiful to see!
Thank you for your patience as we navigated a new dismissal system. As you may know, sometimes implementing new procedures with technology can be tricky. Today was one of those days and I thank each of you for your understanding and cooperation as we implemented this new system.
We recognized many challenges today, have reflected and made changes which will be put in place tomorrow. We will continue to monitor and adjust this system as necessary to provide safety and efficiency for all families.
Here is what we need from you:
-
Dismissal starts at 3:45 pm, we will start entering pickup numbers at 3:40 pm. Please do not arrive on campus prior to 3:35 pm.
-
If you are picking your child up early for an appointment, please arrive on campus by 3:25 pm. No students will be dismissed between 3:30-3:40 pm.
-
When picking up your child at the front door, please hold up your number card so your child can identify your location.
-
If you have not told the school how your child is getting home on a daily basis, please call tomorrow by noon to inform our front office. 253-891-4500
-
If you need to make changes to your child’s dismissal plan, it must be communicated to the school by 2:00pm either through silent dismissal or calling the office.
Again, thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We can only be better together with your partnership.
Sincerely,
Bobbi Snider, Principal

Principal Update: 9/3/21
Posted by SBLSD on 9/3/2021
It was great to see all of you who attended our “Launch into Learning” event last night. We appreciated connecting with each and every one of our Explorers new and old!
We are thrilled to open our doors to students on the first day of school. For safety purposes, we are asking families to say their goodbyes prior to students entering. This will allow us to safely welcome students to our campus. During the school day our office will be accessible by ringing the doorbell at the front door. Thank you for supporting us as we continue to make safety a priority at Donald Eismann Elementary.
Silent Dismissal
Did you know Donald Eismann Elementary is now the largest elementary in SBLSD! With the increase in enrollment to over 600 students we are implementing a new dismissal system. Each child will be given a dismissal tag which will correspond to a guardian pick-up tag. As we implement this new system we ask for your patience working out the kinks the first week. Our goal with this new system is to have an efficient and safe dismissal process.
IMPORTANT: You must have your child's number in order to pick them up. If you did not get your number at our back to school night, you can get the number from your child's teacher or the front office. The remaining pick up cards will be sent home with students on Tuesday.
We must know by noon on Tuesday how your child is getting home on a daily basis. If you forget to tell us how your child is getting home students will remain in the office until parent contact is made. You may create a silent dismissal account and enter that information online, call the office or email dee@sumnersd.org over the weekend.
Please click on this link for instructions on how to create a Silent Dismissal account. Silent Dismissal for Parents.
We have also included the link to log into the website https://dee.sdcs112.com . You will need the information on your child's pick up card to create the account.

Bus transportation: Bus schedules can be found on the school or district websites under Transportation beginning September 1st. Due to Covid contact tracing, students will only be allowed to ride on their scheduled bus. If your regular daycare is on a different bus route, please contact the Transportation department at 253-891-6400 to discuss options. Due to a bus driver shortage, some buses will have double routes, meaning some students may be at school earlier or later while the bus makes its other route. Students are always supervised.
Information on bus routes can be found on the district website, click the Transportation tab.
Access the ONLINE BUS STOP SEARCH TOOL to find the bus route specific to your address. Please have your child at the bus stop 5 minutes before the scheduled bus arrival time.

Principal Update: 8/28/21
Posted by SBLSD on 8/28/2021
Dear Explorer Families,Welcome to the 21-22 school year! For many of you, this is your first year as an Explorer! Donald Eismann Elementary is a place where relationships are valued, learning is a collective responsibility and communication is of utmost importance. We welcome you to our school!
This year our theme is "Build it Back... BETTER TOGETHER!" We know the work we do together to support our students will be critical to their success. As a staff we will take what we learned from the 20-21 school year and build on that success to create the best school year for your child. A critical component of building it back... BETTER TOGETHER, will be our partnership with families. As we launch into the 21-22 school year, we look forward to learning about our students, families and building the trust and connections needed to navigate an amazing year.
We look forward to seeing you at our "Launch into Learning" night!
Sincerely,
Bobbi Snider, Principal
Back to School Night - “Launch into Learning” Thursday, September 2nd from 5:00 - 6:30 pm.
We are excited to open our doors to families for the 21/22 school year. In order to safely open our school doors, all visitors will need to wear a mask indoors. We are asking that only one parent accompany their child to the classroom. All family members will be welcome outside during their timeslot. Students will visit their class first to meet their teacher and pick up their passport for our back to school Launch into Learning. After a quick visit to the classroom, families may visit stations in the back of our building such as STEM, Music, PE, PTA, Explorer Center and Mr. McD. Each station visit earns a star on the passport which will be turned in at the end for a prize drawing on the first day of school.
Times: In order to maintain social distancing please come at your designated time by last name. We understand that circumstances may require you to come at a different time.

Below you will find an aerial view of our dismissal map.
More information will be provided at our Launch into Learning night!
Kindergarten Connections September 7-9.
Kindergarten connections is a brief 1:1 meet and greet with the parent, student and teacher in the classroom. These appointments will occur on September 7-9. Your child’s teacher will be contacting you regarding your scheduled appointment.

Principal Update: 8/6/21
Posted by SBLSD on 8/6/2021
Explorer Families,
I hope each of you are enjoying the summer and have found ways to explore new areas in the Pacific Northwest. Personally, I have found my summer time thinking about our explorer families and how we can make the next school year the best yet. As we plan for back to school, I want to ensure you have the most up to date information for your back to school planning. Please take time to review the key dates and information below.
School Supplies
In order to provide some relief from back-to-school shopping, we are asking families to contribute a $20 donation per child to cover the cost of school supplies. Families will be able to pay in August through Family Access or at school when our office reopens on August 24.
Dismissal Upgrade
We are excited to announce that we have invested in a new dismissal system that will not only increase safety but also allow for increased instructional time at our school. With our school population growing to nearly 600 students, we know that our dismissal will be a busy time! Much like last year, each student will be assigned a number which will correspond to a pick-up tag. Once the pick-up tag is identified as being on campus, your child will be notified to walk to the designated pick-up zone. Look for more information regarding our procedures for drop off and pick-up in our back to school newsletter which will be communicated the week of August 23.
Back to School Night
Save the date for our back to school night which will be held on Thursday, September 2 from 5:00 - 6:30 pm. Details regarding the event will be communicated the week of August 23. We are excited to see our explorers and eager to launch into learning!
As our summer days come to an end, I wish you sunshine, fun and laughter! Continue exploring and making new memories with friends and family. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to email or call.
Take care,
Bobbi Snider, Principal
