DEE: Construction begins on fields

DEE: Construction begins on fields

We’re excited to share that starting Monday, April 27, you’ll notice some changes on the Donald Eismann campus as construction officially gets underway to replace the grass field with a new turf field! Here’s what to expect from now until the fall.

When work is happening
Construction will generally run Monday through Friday, between 7 am and 6 pm, in line with local guidelines. On the first day (April 27), work will begin mid-morning as crews deliver equipment, set up fencing and get organized. Expect a few days of setup before things are fully in motion.

What students will experience
The good news: learning inside the building will not be affected. All construction is taking place on the field, away from classrooms. The closest spaces — the portables — may occasionally feel slight vibration, but disruption should be minimal.

Recess and outdoor spaces
The large grass field will be closed and fenced off for safety, but students will still have access to:

  • Play equipment

  • Covered play areas

  • Basketball courts

  • Hardcourt spaces

What construction will look like
This is a major project, so you’ll see a lot of activity:

  • A steady flow of dump trucks (scheduled to avoid arrival/dismissal and bus times)

  • Bulldozers removing grass and leveling the field

  • Delivery of materials for the new turf and field base

  • Installation of lighting and backstop structures later in the project

Safety first
The entire work area will be enclosed with 6-foot-tall safety chain link fencing. The district and contractor have a detailed safety plan in place and are closely monitoring the site. Student safety remains the top priority.

Looking ahead

  • The turf field and expanded parking lot are expected to be completed before the start of the 2026–27 school year.

  • Construction of the parking lot expansion will begin around June 22, with significant closures expected over the summer.

DEE’s field is the very first of the district nine bond projects to break ground! We’ll keep you informed with regular updates along the way. Find more information about all projects at sumnerbonneylakebuilds.org.
